Among the starts of the evening were Jesse Owens, quadruple gold medal winner (among others the 100 meters) of the Olympic Games in Berlin 1936; two other quadruple gold medal winners; Fanny Blankers Koen, winner of the 100 meters in London 1948, and Vera Caslavska, winner of the gymnastics contest in Mexico 1968, and last not least Armin Hary, Germany s winner of the 100 meters at the Olympic games in Rome 1960.
