  • American helicopter pilots from a U.S. Icebreaker in Antarctic waters are said to have taken a number of Souvenirs from the historic Antarctic huts of Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton. The pilots flew to the 50-year-old huts, about 20 miles apart on Ross Island, to say prayers. They returned with Mementoes: A few scraps of wood found outside Scott s hut, and a bottle of medicine form inside Shackleton s hut. Officials of the operation Deep Freeze have issued strict orders that nothing must be moved from the huts by visiting Americans. Photo shows: Shackleton s hut as it looked in 1911, when used by members of the Scott expedition.
