May 29, 2021, London, United Kingdom: A Black Lives Matter protester holds up smoke bomb during the Kill Bill protest..In March 2021, The UK government proposed the Police and Crime Bill 2021, purporting to expand police rights. Since its publication, it has met with widespread skepticism from the public and subsequently became the subject of protests. This protest on the 29th May 2021 was led by the UK branch of Black Lives Matter, specifically fighting against the use of police power as a means of silencing black voices, in response to recent killings of black people by the police. The march began at Russell Square, went through the Royal Court of Justice, and eventually ended outside the Parliament in Westminster, London. The historic unveiling of one of the most significant statues of our time – suffragist, Millicent Fawcett. Hers will be the first ever statue of a woman in Parliament Square, and the first ever statue there to be created by a woman artist, Gillian Wearing OBE. Sadiq Khan, The Mayor attended the unveiling with other guests including Caroline Criado Perez, whose petition to get the first statue of a woman in Parliament Square was signed by almost 85,000 people along with Theresa May, Prime Minister, journalist Mishal Husain, Helen McCrory and poet Theresa Lola.
