In June 2002, the Israeli cabinet decided to construct the separation wall. The decision was made following a long string of attacks perpetrated by Palestinians against Israelis. The declared objective was preventing Palestinians without permits from entering Israel from the West Bank. However, the establishment of the barrier was also intended to serve other, undeclared aims.
