RECORD DATE NOT STATED Vietnam: Two South Vietnamese Air Force North American T-28C Trojan aircraft flying over the Vietnamese coastline during a counterinsurgency training mission in 1962. The Second Indochina War, known in America as the Vietnam War, was a Cold War era military conflict that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. This war followed the First Indochina War and was fought between North Vietnam, supported by its communist allies, and the government of South Vietnam, supported by the U.S. and other anti-communist nations. The U.S. government viewed involvement in the war as a way to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam and part of their wider strategy of containment.<br ><br > T Copyright: xxPicturesxFromxHistoryx

Mar. 03, 1965 - The Battle For Power In Saigon South Korean Troops Arrive In Vietnam: Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Khanh turned over command of South Vietnam s armed forces to Major Gen. Tran Van Minh in ceremonies at the Joint General Staff Headquarters in Saigon. Khanh has been named Ambassador at Large. During the ceremonies a contingent of South Korean soldiers arrived in Saigon. Mar 05, 1965; near Da Nang, Vietnam; Vietnamese infantrymen scramble from a UH-34D helicopter near Ang Bac, 8 miles from Da Nang to support other Vietnamese infantrymen in repelling an attack on their sector by Viet Cong guerillas. In the 1950 s, the US began to send troops to Vietnam, during the following 25-year period, the ensuing war would create some of the strongest tensions in US history. Almost 3 million US men and women were sent to fight for what was a questionable cause.
