  • British Medical Services in the Second World War Medical Transport: Lightly wounded soldiers playing cards in a hospital train in Belgium. Trains were manned by both military and civilian crews, whose job it was to ensure safe and speedy travel to the casualties, including enemy wounded. Although disorganised and damaged by war, trains played an important part in transporting casualties from hospitals and dressing stations to bases and evacuation areas.
