May 5, 2026, Mexico City, Cdmx, Mexico: The most famous reenactment of the Battle of Puebla has been performed for 96 years in the PeoÂ±oÂ³n de los BaoÂ±os area of the Venustiano Carranza region, right next to Mexico City International Airport. Dressed as Zacapoaxtlas and French, they parade through the streets with homemade cannons and rifles that explode with gunpowder, simulating the battle between the two armies. The original battle arose because President Benito JuoÂ¡rez refused to continue paying the foreign debt due to the economic crisis following the Reform War.
