Plans for Reading prison that once housed Oscar Wilde have been revealed by the new owner. Reading Prison on an autumnal day. The gaol where the Irish writer Oscar Wilde was once incarcerated for being gay is now set to be turned into a museum and an art-inspired hotel, its buyers The Ziran Education Foundation have said. They bought Reading Prison from the Ministry of Justice for £7m in January this year. Chinese businessman Channing Bi said he hopes to transform Reading Prison into a hotel, museum and art gallery. Mr Bi also revealed that if everything goes to plan, the site could be open to the public in under two years.
