India: Yellow Paper-Wasp Polistes olivaceus is a species of paper wasp native to India and East Asia, also known as Yellow Paper-Wasp . Paper wasps are vespid wasps that gather fibers from dead wood and plant stems, which they mix with saliva and use to construct nests made of gray or brown papery material. These wasps can be very aggressive, generally only attack if they themselves or their nest are threatened, and can produce a potentially fatal anaphylactic reaction in some individuals. A Yellow Paper-Wasp bite with string in the human hand (the Little Red spot) and her hand is swollen for that reason. This photo was taken at Tehatta, West Bengal; India on 10 05 2021.
