  • THIS IMAGE SHOWS: The escarpment the science team refers to as Scarp a is seen in this image captured by Perseverance rover?s Mastcam-Z instrument on Apr. 17, 2021. Images taken by NASA?s Perseverance Mars Rover have provided scientists with their strongest indication yet that they might find signs the red planet once harboured life. A new paper, from the rover s science team published in the journal Science on Thursday (07Oct2021) details how the hydrological cycle of the now-dry lake at Jezero Crater is more complicated and intriguing than originally thought. The findings are based on detailed imaging the rover provided of long, steep slopes called escarpments, or scarps in the crater?s delta, which formed from sediment ac Copyright: xx 50744268 EDITORIAL USE ONLY. • THIS PICTURE: Artist s impression of NASA Perseverance Mars Rover. .... STORY COPY: On Monday (6 Sep), NASA?s Perseverance rover completed the collection of the first sample of Martian rock, a core from Jezero Crater slightly thicker than a pencil. Mission controllers at NASA?s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California received data that confirmed the historic milestone. The core is now enclosed in an airtight titanium sample tube, making it available for retrieval in the future. Through the Mars Sample Return campaign, NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) are planning a series of future missions to return the rover?s sample tubes to Earth for closer study. These samples would be the first set of scientifically iden Copyright: xNASA JPL-Caltech ASU MSSS Coverx 50525849 EDITORIAL USE ONLY. NOT FOR USE BY NEWSPAPERS BASED IN THE UK.

  • IMAGO Creative: Planeten im Sonnensystem Mars - Symbolbilder (170906) -- HAIXI, Sept. 6, 2017 -- Photo taken on Aug. 18, 2017 shows China s future Mars simulation base in Hongya (Red Cliff) region of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China s Qinghai Province. About 400 million yuan (61 million U.S. dollars) are expected to invest in the Mars scientific research base and eco-tourism site. The red rock area in Qaidam basin in western Qinghai has been called the most Martian place on Earth, with its natural features, landscape and climate all similar to those on the red planet. The base is expected to consist of a Mars community and a Mars campsite. The campsite will have a number of experimental module-like accommodations. It will be built as a one-stop base for experiential learning in aerospace, astronomy, geography and new energy. ) (lfj) CHINA-QINGHAI-MARS SIMULATION BASE (CN) WuxGang
